In December 2024, Cartiera del Chiese earned another important environmental certification: ISO 14064, also known as the “Carbon Footprint of Organisations” certification. In accordance with the requirements of the ISO 14064-2019 standard, this certification involves developing an inventory to quantify and report greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
These gases, including carbon dioxide (CO2), are primarily produced by anthropogenic activities such as industrial processes, transportation, heating, agriculture, and livestock farming. Elevated levels of these gases in the atmosphere exacerbate the greenhouse effect, leading to a measurable rise in the earth’s surface temperature and resulting in environmental damage that is challenging to mitigate.
Achieving this certification enables – and will continue to enable – Cartiera del Chiese to measure and report its greenhouse gas emissions, thereby contributing to a better understanding of the environmental impact of its operations. Ultimately, this certification aims to steer company decision-making and strategic initiatives toward effectively reducing CO2 emissions, which are estimated to be responsible for approximately 5-20% (with 15% being the most widely accepted figure) of the greenhouse effect.
