In December 2024, Cartiera del Chiese earned yet another important environmental certification, ISO 14064 or, as it is more widely known, certification of the “Carbon Footprint of Organisations”. In accordance with the requirements of the standard ISO 14064-2019, the aim of this certification is to develop an inventory for the quantification and reporting of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG emissions). These gases are substances such as carbon dioxide (CO2), which are produced in large quantities by anthropogenic activities. In other terms, these are the results of human activities such as industry, transport, heating, agriculture and livestock farming. Raised atmospheric levels of these substances aggravate the greenhouse effect. This causes a measurable increase in the temperature of the surface of the earth, which in turn results in environmental damage which is difficult to mitigate. Attaining this certification allows Cartiera del Chiese, and will continue to allow it in future, to measure and report its greenhouse gas emissions, and therefore contribute to a better understanding of the environmental impact of its activities. The end goal of this is, of course, to help steer company decision-making and strategies more effectively in order to reduce CO2 emissions, which are deemed responsible for an estimated 5-20% (the most widely accredited hypothesis is 15%) of the greenhouse effect.
